Final Project
For our final project, I decided to work with Morgan Bates as she and I wanted to come up with something creative and impactful. Something that is very familiar to us and understand the meaning behind it. Because of the prompt being “something on the web about the web”, we thought that social media would be the perfect example. We came up with the prompt of “Instagram vs reality”. We went more in depth and wanted to investigate how we often present ourselves differently online for the pleasure of others or even ourselves. To think of a way to create this project on the web, we had the idea of creating our own Instagram page with our findings. After deciding between interviews, articles, news media and so on to help us support our project, our best bet was our actual Instagrams. We created an Instagram page which we shared in the #final-project so that people could see our page and follow if they wanted. Our first post was our own Instagram vs. reality pictures and our quick thoughts on it. We then decided to question our own Instagram followers about a couple of things. The results were interesting and not surprising. A lot more of the details about the results are in our posts. Below I have shared the different pictures from our Instagram posts to show what we found.

To conclude our findings, the idea of Instagram vs. Reality is very much present. Our generation has started this image of looking different on social media outlets than their actual selfs. Will this continue on from generation to generation? Will we be more worried about how we perceive ourselves in other people’s eyes and not what makes us feel happy and confident?
